I dunno if what u guys call jheri curl is what we call perm.. ‘cause my dad still has it… and I ain’t ashamed to say so.. he has been perming his hair for as long as I can remember.. my aunt has been his stylist for decades, and the old man ain’t changing.. he even dyes the grey out..

You are hilarious! I will not lie. There used to be a Kool Aid commercial where the girl had a bomb curl and she had it in a banana clip. Oh my!!! When I saw that commercial I just HAD to have a curl. I was so excited. I was only about 7 but since I have this Amistad hair, I had been going to the beauty shop every two weeks since I was TWO lol. I went in there on a mission that Saturday morning and sat my behind in that chair and told my beautician (Ms. Robin) that I wanted a curl. That woman refused to put it in my hair! Then she told my mama who said “Have you lost your mind?”

i won’t lie. I was mad as hell, but now I look back and I am so happy that they were looking out for me. I think of all the greasy nights they saved me from!

Well if it ever came back, I hope it wouldn’t be as messy. Yeah I forgot to point out the nasty greasy collars. Now THAT, I hated. I had this one girlfriend in the 5th grade (I think she was before Anquenette) that had a curl, and she didn’t keep it up well. Her hair was thick and it looked like there was a lot of curl on top, but underneath the top layer of curl was kind of fro’d. Add to that little lint balls that it seemed like only I noticed. But then again, we were like 10 and 11, so I guess I shouldn’t have expected too much.

Reversing a curl? lol so I guess that’s the equivalent of getting your curl deactivated?

Who knows, maybe Jheri curl 3.0 may be dry and shiny at the same time? Would you ladies still stay away from it?

Forgot to mention the ordeal of taking swim lesson with “the curl.” I never use to wear my swim cap like my Mom told me to, so my hair turned this weird copper color as well. I liked it though. They were like highlights to me, lol. Anyway, my Mom went off on me in front of my all white swim class because I refused to wear my cap (and when I say “went off” I mean I got the public beating of my life). In my mind, I was thinking, “who is the one that opted for me to have a curl and put me in swim class on top of that?” But do you think I said it aloud? Shortly thereafter, she took me to get my curl reversed.
