Happy Friday everyone!

I took out the Crocodile Hunter!!
I had the tv on this morning like I usually do when I’m getting ready for work, and as usual, I had it on the Today show. They had a story on there of how these spear fisherman had an encounter with a tiger shark. At the beginning of the interview, the fisherman explained what spear fishing is. It’s basically swimming underwater with a spear gun, holding your breath and no scuba gear. The only equipment they use is a wetsuit, flippers, and goggles.
So these dudes are swimming and doing their fishing thing and a 12 foot tiger shark is positioning itself in order to attack. The fisherman heads the shark off at the pass and spears him, but of course, it takes a lot more than one spear to take the shark out. As a matter of fact, it took several spears and 2 hours to kill the shark. The guys explain that they didn’t want to just spear the shark, and escape while the shark dies a slow death, so they did the right thing and worked at killing it as quickly as they could and bring it to the surface to die a more humane death.
As a black man my reaction was “Man……………F*CK THAT!”
First off, fishing is cool to do, but I prefer being on a pier or on some dry land that doesn’t move in order to fish. And these jokers are diving in shark infested waters with a spear gun to get some fish? Man, I don’t give a damn if there were gold plated fish that squirted platinum caviar out their asses. I would not place myself in that situation to hunt fish. Then to kill the shark in a “humane” way. F*ck that, if it’s my life or the shark’s, I could give a rat’s ass what kind of death he has. I’m trying to return to dry land in one piece.
After that story, they showed a preview of an upcoming story of folk who go down and feed sharks without the protection of cages or anything…. you know they were non black people……
I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again…generally speaking, white folk are bored with life and are thrillseekers. Now I don’t say this to disparage white folk. I mean, on some level, it’s admirable and awe inspiring that they can be so courageous. But my blackness makes this concept of extreme thrillseeking quite perplexing and I’m left with wondering WHY???
This must have been fishing week or something because yesterday there was this dude from New Zealand that does extreme fishing. What is extreme you might ask? Well, the clip they kept replaying was this guy, jumping out of a helicopter and into the ocean onto the back of a SWORDFISH!!
WHAT…THE….F*CK…..
Here is dude’s website, I think you can see the clip on there too.
That sh!t is so crazy, I can’t even say too much about it. I guess it is true though that those Australian white folk are the most extreme. They are hard to the core. From Crocodile Dundee to Steve Erwin, to this fishing fool. Whatever man…
Corduroy isn’t fond of the water like that. Granted, I was a lifeguard when I was a young lad, but that was for the city pool, and it was just a bullsh!t cool job to have as a teenager. As far as the ocean and boats go and all that, I’ll pass. I don’t like the sand cause it gets everywhere and even all in the crack of your ass, saltwater isn’t pleasant in your eyes or mouth, and I can go on and on.
As far as boats go, I get seasick. I remember the first time I was on a boat. I was like 9 and we were going fishing from a boat that was DOCKED. Before we went on the boat I had a hostess cherry pie. Needless to say, that pie was all over the deck before long. The thing I hate about being seasick is that it’s a sickness that siezes you and doesn’t let you go for as long as you’re on the boat. It doesn’t care if you don’t have any more to throw up either. It keeps on coming and coming. But when you step on dry land again, it’s like nothing ever happened! I can only imagine what my ancestors went through during the Middle Passage. They clearly passed down the aversion for boats down to me, cause Corduroy doesn’t and will not do boats.
I hope you all have good weather this weekend. I think it’s like one more week before springtime. I love the Spring. Peace out!
