What the f*ck NBC????

Ok, I am a tv junkie.  I love a good story, and I love good storytellers.  The writers of some of the shows on tv are true talents.  While others are straight up boo boo.

I keep track of a few shows on tv now.

She plays an Ice Cold Bitch to a tee

“Damages” with Glenn Close  (I saw Fatal Attraction as a kid and I won’t forget how she got all nasty with Michael Douglas).

dont get mad, shes legal now!

don't get mad, she's legal now!

“Heroes” because I was heavy into comic books as a kid, and have always been fascinated with the concept of regular people having superpowers

wacky show

“Chuck” because it comes on right before heroes, and is probably the silliest show that I watch, but the cast is such a band of misfits with the Indian dude and the strange red headed white guy, I can’t resist it’s pull.

“Smallville” because hey, it’s Superman and I’m proud (Yes, PROUD) to say that I haven’t missed one episode since it came on tv 8 or so years ago.

This dude was Chet on Weird Science! LOL

This dude was Chet on Weird Science! LOL

“Big Love” because it is so outside of the bounds of what I think as normal that I can’t resist! I mean, I look at each episode and I think to myself “Wow, there are white folk that really practice this way of life!!”

I HATE JULIA!

I HATE JULIA!

“Nip/Tuck” because sh!t, at one time it had the craziest, most sordid storylines imaginable, and Christian Troy USED to be the man, but it has since gone off the deep end, and I just watch it to stay loyal and see how the series is going to end (which is coming up in 2011).

shes like Anandas evil gay twin sister

she's looks like Ananda's evil twin sister

I still hold a candle for “The Wire” because that has been the best thing to come on TV E V E R.  I know a lot of “24″ loyalists will argue me down about that, and I’m not denying Jack Bauer’s swagger, but the appeal of “The Wire” is that it is R E A L. The problems are real, the situations are real, everything is real from top to bottom. The MacGyver-esque “24″ got a little too much for me and I lost track. Once you lose track of “24″ for more than one episode, you can hang it up and you should start over.

Ok so now I’m trying to add “Kings” to my list of shows. If you have been under a rock or one of those weird folk that claim to not watch much tv, or if you watch tv, but stay tuned into 106th and park (which by the way, if you are over 22 and watch it more than once a month, you need to “get some business about yourself”), this is a heavily hyped show that made its premiere on NBC recently. Here’s a pic:

It is basically a story about a made up nation, power, war, politics, sex, blah blah blah. When it comes to stories like this that have some of the same elements that hundreds of shows have had before, I pay close attention to how well they develop the story and the characters.  The dark haired dude above is the King and I remember him from “Deadwood” that came on HBO.  He plays a great villanous dude with a voice that drips evil. The protagonist of the show is that Matt Damon looking dude, and I could take him or leave him.  In the premiere he has this all american apple pie valiant white boy steez going on that gets on my nerves.  I can tell that I’ll be watching to see how dirty the Deadwood dude is gonna do people. My dad watched “Dallas” religiously and he LOVED the JR character, but I never understood why.  He would crack up and be like “That JR is so DIRTY!!” I didn’t get it then, but I get it now.  I may have to set my DVR to start recording “Dallas” on the SOAP opera channel.

Ok, so the point I’m getting to is this….the episode begins and opens with the bootleg Matt Damon at home and his family has some kind of car repair business.  A customer comes in with a broken car, and it happens to be one of the main characters, the nation’s reverend or something.  He’s black. It’s Eamonn Walker:

I think he was in that show “Oz” that came on HBO, which I couldn’t get into because there was way too much butt lovin for my senses and whenever they would have that LAME cornball ass nigga that’s on “Lost” do his poetry pieces I just couldn’t take it.   Now having dude on “Kings” is way cool cause of course I want to see as many black folk in high profile DRAMATIC series as possible, but when he comes on, you can tell there is something off…he touches the bootleg Matt Damon’s face in a way a straight man would NOT touch another man’s face. Sh!t, the only way a man should be touching another man’s face is if he is giving him a knuckle sandwich.

So I’m like “Awww hell….WHY?”

So the FIRST black character, and it looks like the ONLY black character that will be playing a significant role in the show’s story is a gay reverend? Give me a motherf*cking break!!!

Ok, I know what you’re thinking: “How do you know the guy’s character is gay?”

Well, later on in the story, he touches dude’s face AGAIN!! How did he do it? Well, he was telling Matt Blamon that he needs to smile because they are throwing a party in his honor.  Then he takes his fingers and puts them on both sides of Matt Blamon’s mouth and pushes them up, to try to make him smile….WHAT THE FIGGITY F*CK…..

If you recall one of my earlier posts, you know I had a problem with that show “True Blood” that comes on HBO.  Now even though the vampire thing is straight up white folk fantasy that is incredibly far fetched and incompatible with my black psyche, I can sometimes get into it (i.e. “Interview With a Vampire”), but if you recall, the very first episode of “True Blood” introduced the first black man, and he was a transvestite or drag queen or maybe just a flamboyant gay dude.  Now know that Cord has no problem with gay dudes, but my thing is when black men’s roles in quality productions are already at an extreme minimum, why must they be cast as gay dudes?  You may say that it’s no big deal, but artistic expressions in media like that speak volumes and the perception of black people, and black men in this case, get skewed.  Also, as a straight black man, I can’t help but be bothered by it on some level.  I think they are bent on emasculating black men on film. You may be quick to call it homophobia, but I’m just being real and f*ck it, this is my blog.   I’ll be seriously debating on whether or not I’m going to follow this series, but it’s looking doubtful now.

What say you?

What about “The Office” and “30 Rock” (both on NBC) They might be the two funniest shows with minimal Black people ever on TV. However, Tracey Morgan is “coonish” enough to account for a cast of a thousand Black folks on the set of a Tarzan movie!

Yeah how could I forget? I also have the DVR set for “30 Rock” and it’s pretty funny. But that damn Tracey Morgan is so f*cking coonish and ignorant, he is probably the most exaggerated caricature of a black man TV has ever seen. He is a cartoon. He could easily be a character that “Boondocks” would use as a negative statement of blackness. I hate his character. I think more than I hate Julia in “Nip/Tuck”. Did I mention that I hated Tracey Morgan’s character? Oh…just making sure. The way he talks is like he’s mildly retarded. Or maybe it’s not even mild. He may be full retard. Then he comes with this “I’m gonna impregnate you” steelo to every woman he talks to whenever they interview him…NIGGA….THAT SH!T IS NOT FUNNY. AT ALL. I have yet to watch “The Office”. I’ve heard good things about it, but I guess I just haven’t gotten around to it. I’ll check it out.

The reverend is not gay. This is an allegorical sitcom based on David. The reverend is the prophet Samuel, hence Reverend Samuels. The touch on the forehead was a foreshadowing anointing of sorts just as Samuel anoints David while tending sheep. The anointing occurred two years before the kid went to battle against Goliath. The names give you all the clues you need. King Silas. The mother, Jesse–David’s father’s name. David first marries Saul’s daughter as a spoil for killing Goliath. I can’t wait until we get to Bathsheba. David on the run is biblically next though.
