A Disturbing Pattern

29 01 2010

Sorry for not writing yesterday gang. No excuses.

If you haven’t been under a rock or aren’t in a state of denial, you probably have an idea of what I’m about to discuss.  It’s the theme of the two pictures above. Halle and Denzel won oscars for their roles in “Monster’s Ball” and “Training Day”, respectively.  Monique recently won the Golden Globe for her role in “Precious”.

Now know that I’m not saying they weren’t deserving of the acclaim they got (not entirely), because they are all good (maybe great) in their own right.  My OPINION is as follows: Read the rest of this entry »

The Dog Days of Unemployment

27 01 2010

I know what you’re probably thinking. That this is gonna be a “woe is me” post that will bum you out.  I’m here to tell you it’ll be nothing of the sort!

A comedian once said that comedy comes from a dark (painful) place. I couldn’t agree more because in my circumstances I find oodles and oodles of humor.

For instance, last night I went by my sister’s house just to chill out, and laugh at how crazy my nieces and nephew make her. As I was leaving, she said “You know my theory about men in sweat pants, right?”

I said “No, what?”

She said “They’re unemployed.” Read the rest of this entry »

The Moment You’ve All Been Waiting For…

26 01 2010

Ok, I’m just bullsh*ttin ya’ll. I have no delusions of grandeur believing that my blog posts are worth “waiting” for.  I know most of my readers could give a rat’s as* about me since I left them hanging for so long. I mean for Pete’s sake, my last post was right after Michael Jackson’s death!  You may be thinking, “….Now that’s some triflin’ sh*t”, and you know what? It is, I admit. I’m gonna be like a boyfriend who got caught red-handed cheating and apologize and hope that you’ll forgive me.  The thing is, either you will and take me back into your loving hearts and minds, or you won’t and I’ll be saddened, trying desperately to win you back. Just how I’d do that, I’m not sure, but in the meantime do us both a favor and give a ni*ga a break! Read the rest of this entry »

Simply the Best

26 06 2009
Michael at his best

Michael at his best

This morning while watching the Today Show as they were chronicling Michael Jackson’s life, I felt that familiar swell in my neck and the warmth in my face and the warmth around my eyes, and before long, tears started streaming down my face.  Rather than choke them back and “man up”, I went ahead and let them fall for a few minutes, then I shook off the wave of grief that had overcome me, and got up to shower. Good Things Coming…

16 06 2009

If you’ve cast me away like the rubbish I have been for the past few months due to the unwarranted neglect I’ve shown to you readers, I deserve it.

However, I’m here to tell you, a brand new Corduroy is coming soon. You won’t even recognize me (or at least my blog).   I’ll provide something that’s 300% more engaging (yes, I’ve measured it!)

So if you still have love for your boy Corduroy, just stay tuned…

The Matrix

FREEYOUR MIND PEOPLE!!

FREE YOUR MIND PEOPLE!!

Good morning everyone.  I wanna talk about the Matrix.  I’m not trying to get into some existential discussion about every aspect of life, but more so a limited discussion about your job.  Yes, your job, the bane of most of our existences (or existii??), but a part of life that is necessary, nonetheless. The first movie I cried on was….

1 04 2009

E.T.

…Yes, as in the Extra Terrestrial.  That movie came out in 1982 and I was going on 6 years old.  My sister, who at the time was 13 took me and I remember the meat of the story – alien gets displaced on earth, alien befriends little boy, mean scary white men try to capture alien to tap into their inner Captain Kirk by having sex with an alien, boy helps alien to escape the evil white men, alien goes home.  It’s something along those lines. How Did I Get Here?

30 03 2009

Good morning everyone.  I got some pretty devastating news over the weekend.  There has been a goal that I have been working on for some time now that I have yet to accomplish.  At first it took my breath away, and then I literally got dizzy for a moment and hyperventilated briefly.  Read the rest of this entry »

Hip Hop: Top 20 Hip Hop Songs

19 03 2009

Good Thursday gang.  I am doing another hip hop post, which is so unlike me since I don’t listen to the music that much.  However, since I grew up on it, the music and a large majority of the culture of hip hop in the 80s and 90s is a part of me. Also, it looks as if Killer Mike left a comment on yesterday’s post.  You may be saying “How do you know it was really him?”  Well, my instinct leads me to believe that it was as well as me doubting that someone would take the time to pose as Killer Mike and give my rinky dink blog any attention.  So Killer Mike, thanks for the read homie. I’ll be pumping “Monster” this weekend and I’ll be looking for your next project. Read the rest of this entry »

Hip Hop: Top 5 MCs dead or alive

18 03 2009

Good Hump Day people!  After reading the comments on yesterday’s post, let me be the first to say that I stand corrected!  Corduroy needs to know his Bible better.  However, Bible stories usually don’t come to mind when I watch NBC.  Still no excuse though, I just need to know my Bible. 😦  I beg for your forgiveness, loyal Corduroy blog followers!
